Itinerary of our Alps Trip
08:30 Arrive at Interlaken
You can decide on a few ways to explore this mesmerizing lake district area in Switzerland. We have specially organized very interesting activities for you at Interlaken. You could explore Lauterbrunnen, an impressive valley that is home to 72 waterfalls. Or use Lauterbrunnen as a base to go up to Jungfraujoch and take in unforgettable views at almost 3,500 meters above sea level. You could also choose to remain at Interlaken and take your time to discover the peaceful Swiss-alps town.
——-chose your trip style, there are 3 different options…..
Option 3: Interlaken
If you wish to remain in the Interlaken area, you can take your time to discover this beautiful destination. Interlaken is located between two scenic lakes, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. You can explore the region by going on a boat cruise. There are some winter sports for you to engage in if you like some heart-pumping actions. To soak in the yuletide cheer, you can visit the local Christmas markets for an authentic Swiss experience!
——-option 1 & option 2 are described in the section below——–
18:10 Gather for departure at Interlaken
After a long day of exploring and fun, we will make our way to the hotel in the quaint alpine city of Annecy.
21:10 Check-in
After checking in to the hotel, you can rest up early or head out to town with your travel mates to explore the old town or have a late meal.
With around 3 hours to explore this area, you can start with a quick breakfast if you like or sample some raclette, locally known as chäsbrätel, at the Christmas market. Look out for the awe-inspiring Staubbach Falls as you take a short hike along the trail. Admire the pretty chalet houses, one of the signature architecture of Switzerland, and if you are lucky, you can even catch a glimpse of the Alpine cows out and about on the field.
Start with a hearty breakfast if you like or sample some raclette, locally known as chäsbrätel, at the Christmas market. Look out for the awe-inspiring Staubbach Falls as you leisurely hike along the trail. Admire the pretty chalet houses, the signature architecture of Switzerland, and if you are lucky, you can even catch a glimpse of the Alpine cows out and about on the field. From Lauterbrunnen, you can hike to other towns, such as Murren or Wengen, which also has a lively Christmas market. In these idyllic mountain towns, you can experience how locals live. The winter panorama is almost fairytale-like, so make sure you have your camera or smartphone ready for pictures!
Option 2: Jungfraujoch
Another highly recommended activity is to explore Jungfraujoch. If after a short walk around Lauterbrunnen you wish to see and do more, then you should head up to Jungfraujoch, impressively known as the “Top of Europe”! Here you will find a majestic blanket of ice and snow, awe-inspiring views of ancient rocks and glacier peaks, and see the mountains meet the sky. The experience is truly one of a kind. For a fixed price, you will get train transportation from Lauterbrunnen up to Jungfraujoch and return to Interlaken. You will also have access to some of the must-see sites.
On your way to Jungfraujoch, you will arrive by train at the panoramic Eismeer station and get to see how Switzerland must have looked like during the last Ice Age! Head to the Sphinx Observation Deck, an astronomical observatory, for more stunning views. Then enter the Ice Palace, for pieces of art and sculpture carved out of ice and frozen by time. Step into the renowned Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven for a tour and to buy some delightful chocolate souvenirs before venturing to the Alpine Sensation museum as well as watching the Jungfrau Panorama film that will give you a 360-degree panorama of the mountain, 365 days a year, regardless of the weather!
09:00 Arrive in Chamonix
It is highly recommended that you take the famous cable car “Aiguille du Midi” and go up to the upper station of Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain. The upper station is 1000 meters below the peak and the winter panorama from here is fantastic, so get ready to take some awesome pictures to share on Instagram and Facebook.
After spending some time at the upper station at Mont Blanc, we will return to Chamonix and enjoy the charming Christmas market at Place Balmat. You can visit interesting stalls for souvenirs as well as sample some specialty food and local drinks. This is also the perfect time to huddle with your friends in a wooden chalet restaurant and share a warm fondue.
Chamonix is also a great base for taking the rack and pinion railway to Montenvers, where you get to walk through an ice cave to reach the Mer de Glace glacier. Do consider seizing this awesome opportunity if you like to experience more ice and snow!
15:30 Continue on to Geneva
Gather for departure towards the vibrant Geneva, most well known for its watch-making and Swiss chocolates!
16:45 Arrive in Geneva
You will have the free time to explore the historic heart of Geneva, stroll along the cobblestone streets and enjoy the festive lights to get in the Christmas spirit, as well as admire the serenity of the Lake Geneva. Look out for the Place du Bourg-de-Four, the commercial center of the city, with fountains, restaurants, and shops for some last-minute gift shopping. There are many parks in Geneva, but if you wish to see an elevated view of the city, you can consider walking to the Banc de la Treille park. You could also go skating in ice rinks and stay warm with some mulled wine. Together with your travel mates, why not consider having an early Christmas Eve dinner together to mark this special occasion?
20:00 Departure from Geneva
After exploring Geneva, we will gather to head back to the hotel in Annecy.
20:45 Arrive at the hotel
After arriving in Annecy, you could go out with your travel companions and usher in Christmas the way the locals do. Alternatively, you can gather with the travel crew and welcome Christmas the quiet way, in the hotel.
You can also wake up early to explore Annecy on Christmas Day. This beautifully quaint French city in southeastern France is famous for its lake, Lac d’Annecy, and the tranquil mountainous backdrop. Get lost in the whimsical old town, known as “Venice of the Alps”, as you stroll through the sleepy cobblestone alleys, cross tiny canals while admiring charming pastel houses and historic architecture unique to the region.
14:00 Departure from Annecy
We will leave Annecy and venture on to Veytaux,
16:00 Arriving in Veytaux
Veytaux, in the canton of Vaud, is located at the eastern end of Lake Geneva. Home to the island castle, Chillon, visitors have come from all around the world to tour this unique historic building.
With an hour here, you could do a quick tour if you like or just wander around the castle grounds for some photos. You will feel as if you have time-traveled back to the Middle Ages and every corner you turn, from the chambers to dungeon, is like a page out of a storybook. The panorama at Chillon Castle is equally breathtaking, so make sure you devote some time to exploring the area.
