Itinerary for our Strasbourg and Luxembourg Trip
Quick Day Overview:
08:00 Arrive in Luxembourg
Luxembourg is a multicultural city with much to offer. From rustic nature to UNESCO World Heritage monuments, ancient castle and world-class museums, it is a jewel waiting to be discovered.
Venture to the city wall and get a sense of how life used to be like in a forgotten era. At Chemin de la Corniche, the “most beautiful balcony of Europe”, you can take in a panorama of this age-old city.
Experience the allure of Luxembourg as you witness the Christmas magic spreading all around centuries-old squares and cobbled alleys. Shop for decorations at the wooden huts and try piping hot local snacks in the cold. You will find cosy Christmas villages at Place d’Armes, the Place de la Constitution and the Place de Paris.
Some of the must-try Christmas specialties from Luxembourg include mulled wine known as Glühwäin, sausages like Mettwurscht, a local Luxembourgish sausage and the irresistible potato pancakes called Gromperekichelcher.
10:00 Depart for Strasbourg
To continue our festive tour, we will proceed to Strasbourg, the capital city of the Grand Est region.
Quick Day Overview:
13:00 Arrive in Strasbourg
Strasbourg exudes a unique charm, influenced by both the French and German cultures because it sits close to the German border.
The first monument you will see is the Strasbourg Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece. From here, you can opt to go for lunch or roam around this storybook-like city on your own.
15:00 Optional guided tour
Go on a guided tour to discover the famous landmarks and hidden gems of Strasbourg. Visit the impressive Rohan Palace, which is now a mega museum and go to Kléber Square to admire one of the most stunning Christmas trees in the region. Take in the gigantic beauty of the modern European Parliament Building and certainly do not miss out on the postcard-perfect Petite France district.
Did you know that Strasbourg is renowned as the “Capital of Christmas”? There are a total of 11 Christmas markets dotted all around the historic city centre and they are close to each other. You will feel like you are in a winter wonderland with the dreamy Christmas lights that run for kilometres, illuminating the promenades all the way to the docks. Be mesmerised by the impressive seasonal decorations that greet you everywhere and follow the smell of Bredele cakes wafting through the air, as you wander around, shop for souvenirs, and have a joyous time with your travel mates.
Before the trip comes to an end, consider visiting a local restaurant to try the Alsatian specialty of choucroute garnie!
