Itinerary for our Neuschwanstein and Innsbruck Road Trip
Being in Neuschwanstein will be a moment you remember for life. Walk around the area to soak in the unrivaled views of the awe-inspiring castle and its surrounding natural landscape. Spring is a season bursting with life. During this time of the year, snow is melting away as greenery envelopes the region, transforming it into a luxuriant gem. A visit to the castle is only possible if you time the visit well in advance and buy tickets online. If you could manage that, then the inside of Neuschwanstein also makes for an impressive tour.
09:45 Hike back to Hohenschwangau.
With some free time at Hohenschwangau, you can stroll around this castle compound as well as take stunning photos of the dreamy lake Alpsee, glimmering in the distance.
10:45 Depart for Innsbruck
We will continue on to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, Austria.
12:45 Arrive in Innsbruck
The charming city of Innsbruck is not only renowned as a winter destination for skiing. Its dynamic blend of imperial landmarks, Rococo buildings, and modern architecture has attracted visitors from around the world. There is much to see and do in Innsbruck, especially when the days become longer in spring and the region soaks up the sun.
You can consider going on a guided tour with the rest of your travel mates for more sightseeing and also to get to know the history and local folklore of Innsbruck. Look out for the Imperial Hofburg, the ornate Golden Roof, the renaissance-styled Ambras Castle, and the quaint Rococo-inspired Helbling House. For the foodies, you can wander off to the Markthalle to savor some local delights. If you are seeking a real adventure, then join your travel companions in going all the way up to the Nordkette mountain.
Innsbruck also boasts of excellent museums and with the free time you have, you can consider visiting one or two sites. The Tyrolean Folk Art Museum is worth a visit to the important cultural artifacts that were amassed from the Tyrol region. Austria is home to the Swarovski crystals. 20 minutes outside of Innsbruck city center is the headquarter of the company. You can view interesting exhibitions in the Chambers of Wonder, then shop for some sparking souvenirs to take home.
For a warm meal before heading home, you could explore some of the old townhouses in the historic city center which has been converted to restaurants. This is a great opportunity to enjoy some local Austrian dishes like schnitzel, tafelspitz, and apfelstrudel!
