The borough of Lohmen is most renowned for the impressive Bastei rock formation, which is lovingly known as “The balcony of Saxon Switzerland”.
Walk on the Bastei bridge and admire the spectacular view of the Elbe Valley. This is a photo-worthy spot so gather your new friends and travel companions for a memorable group shot.
With 45 minutes at this stopover, you can cross the bridge and briefly visit the ruins of Neurathen Castle, which used to be an observation fortress during medieval times.

Despite its old world charm, Dresden was heavily bombarded in WWII and had to be rebuilt. However this did not diminish its glorious beauty. There is much to see and explore in this city. The river Elbe divides it into two parts. In the Alstadt, which is the old town, you will discover resplendent cathedrals like the Baroque domed church, Frauenkirche, impressive murals, and ornate palaces like The Zwinger, which will remind you of the French Versailles. In the Neustadt, you will find picturesque streets filled with artisanal shops, quirky cafés and a more dynamic vibe.
With the free time you have roam around Dresden, you can start with a walking tour to get to know the city better.
Be sure to drop in on Pfunds Dairy, which is truly the most beautiful dairy shop in the world. There are several interesting museums for the culture-enthusiasts. Check out the Bundeswehr Military History Museum or the eye-opening Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, which houses 750 paintings hailing from the 15th to 18th century.
If you wish to just take it easy, you can relax in one of the many green spaces like parks and palace gardens to soak in the picturesque vibe of Dresden. For a break or an early dinner, you can visit a traditional beer hall and get to know Germany’s famous beer culture as well as sample delicious local cuisine such as sausages, pork knuckle and sauerkraut.
